What is a chisel?
A chisel is a hand tool with a sharp cutting edge designed for shaping or carving materials like wood, metal or stone. It’s typically struck with a hammer or mallet to drive the blade into the material.
How do I sharpen a chisel?
Chisel sharpening is done by honing the bevelled edge on a sharpening stone. Hold the chisel at the correct angle and move it back and forth across the stone, then finish by polishing the edge on a finer grit or honing guide for a clean, sharp finish.
Can chisels be used with a hammer?
Wood chisels often work best with a mallet, but some have steel caps or through-tang designs suitable for heavier hammer strikes.
How should I store chisels?
Store them with blade guards or in a dedicated chisel roll to protect the edges.
